In India, youth hold a major population proportion, and this must be acknowledged given the ability and extend they can support in transforming the economy by empowering them with proper guidance, training, infrastructure, opportunities, and motivation. With the right guidance, their interest, passion, sharp critical awareness, and skills of the contemporary world can pave way for them to play a critical role in significantly benefitting and transforming the country into a better place.
To boost skill-based employment and uplifting the livelihood and state of living of the underprivileged youth, the Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship under the Government of India, has initiated an Employment Generation Programme to empower youth with the skill and training development and employment programs. The main objectives of the programme are:
- Developing the formal and informal internships under expert guidance
- Provide Industry-specific training and skills to unemployed/underemployed youth
- Increase efficiency and productivity and living standards of the people from specific communities
- Enhance youth’s employability to adapt to the ever-changing job market demands
- Create employment opportunities for underprivileged youth and women
